The Beautiful City of Little Rock
Little Rock is Arkansas capital city and the center of economic activity.  Little Rock was founded in 1821 as the territorial capital and incorporated in 1831.  Arkansas was granted statehood in 1836.  Little Rock has a population of 193,524 per the 2010 census. 
 

Little Rock derives its name from a small rock formation on the south bank of the Arkansas River called Petite Roche, which is French for "the little rock".  The "little rock" was used by early river traffic as a landmark and became a well-known river crossing.
 

Little Rock is a major cultural, economic, government and transportation center within Arkansas and the south.  It is well known for its outdoor opportunities and has many miles of hiking trails, a major cycling route, mountains to climb, and plenty of lakes and rivers to fish and ski.  The city is the headquarters of Dillards, Windstream Communications, Acxiom, Stephens Inc., UAMS, Heifer International, the Clinton Foundation, Winrock International, Lions World Services for the Blind, and Dassault Falcon Jet.

Lyon College is working on the development of a dental school and veterinary school on the Heifer International campus with anticipated opening in 2025.  The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is constructing a 20,000 square foot music center nearby. 

The city hosts the Little Rock Marathon every year and boasts of having the world's largest finishing medals, often weighing over three pounds.  Racers come in from all fifty states and fourteen different countries.  It is held the first weekend of March each year.

The Big Dam Bridge is noted as the longest pedestrian bicycle bridge in North America that has never been used by cars or trucks.  It rises over 30 feet above the Murray Lock and Dam and connects Little Rock with North Little Rock.  The Arkansas River Trail is a part of the Big Dam Bridge and runs 17 miles along both sides of the river.  The Arkansas River trail is a major route for cyclists, runners, and walkers and is enjoyed by thousands every year.
 

The Junction Bridge and the Clinton Presidential Park bridges are situated near the River Market district and allow for pedestrian and cycling traffic to cross the river to access either side of the river.
 

Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium plays host to  University of Arkansas football games each year.    It is estimated that over 80,000 people are present for tailgating activities on the weekends that the Razorbacks play at the stadium.
